It's My Party, I can cry if I want to... cry if I want to... cry if I want to

07:57 pm - Back to School

Wow,
So it's been a little while since I got around to updating this. My bad. Let's see if I can catch you up on everything that's been going on with me without making this too long...
So after school last year I went home and was there for about a month before going to camp. Quite frankly, that just about covers that.
I headed to camp about mid june. Camp, as always, was freakin awesome. I had an outstanding summer. I was in a cabin of 14 year olds, with an awesome co-counselor, who made my job a breeze. I was also in charge of Tree Talk, our weekly discussion about important character development topics like community, trust, etc. I put a lot of time into it, and I had a ton of fun with it. That was the basic outlay of the summer, but of course there were too many awesome stories to put here. I would like to give a shout out to the BRC staff though, for being so much fun to work with. It was good to see a few old faces return, like Thomas, Brad, and Cole, and of course it was great to catch up with everybody from the previous year. It was also awesome to have Paul there for the first time.
So anyways, now I'm moved into my room at Duke. The first day of classes was yesterday. I'm rooming with Allen this year, which is bomber. It's been good to catch up with my fraternity brothers again, it seems like most of them had good summers. Other than that we're just kickin it. Allen built us a killer bar, which always makes things interesting and exciting.
This past weekend I was up at Georgetown for Rebecca's 21st birthday. Happy Birthday to her, I had a good time, and thanks to Matt for making me feel 23 for a day. I'm also looking forward to my 21st, which is coming up in November. I'm hoping some people from Stoga, and some folks from camp are able to make it down, because that would be bitchin.
Anyhow, thanks for readin... peace out everybody.

Alright, not a whole lot to tell since last night, but let's give this a swing anyways...

Just finished a fraternity budget meeting. Let's just say it's going to be an interesting year next year. Other than that today I went to the gym, to work in the evening, and got a few random errands/cleaning done.

Not to spoil the ridiculously logical conclusion that is apparent to anyone who read my post last night, but congrats to Rebecca, who is finished with the foreign service exam. I'm sure you crushed it.

Other than that just the usual shoutout to all my peeps out there. The rents and my brother up in DC, all my fraternity brothers and friends here at Duke, camp people in Maine and elsewhere, and all you Stogies at your respective universities.

Anyhow, that's about all I have to say. Back to using IRIS to draw the MFG and IFG bordered by the CS and PCS at BIAC. Later.

So, what's happenin y'all? Been a while since my last journal, so here's a brief update of what's going on with me.

Classes for my sophomore year are officially over. Yesterday was the last day of classes. There's one slight problem with celebrating too much at this point however... final exams. Good news though is that I've got a week to study, then three exams, then I'm all set. So come a week from this Saturday, I'll be effectively a junior in college.

And of course, with classes ends pledging. Of course last semester when pledging ended I was ecstatic. This time, I'm wondering where all the people getting me drinks and food and such went. Just kidding, it's good to have the new guys aboard. Initiation was today, as well as slanderfest. Slanderfest is what happens when Phi Delt has elections, which is a lot of fun. Today we elected the like six billion positions in this fraternity, and in a little under 2 hours. I was already treasurer and beach bitch, and now I have co-rush chair to add to that. I think I'm something else also, but honestly I can't remember.

Things at BIAC continue to go well. I learned two new structures last week (the medial and inferior frontal gyri), and I've been working on them. And let me tell you, these are freaking time consuming. For those of you who weren't aware, the fusiform gyrus is a piece of cake compared to the MFG and IFG. Damn these things are a pain to draw.

My parents visit a week from today, which should be a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to hiding all my booze and showing them my room. :)

For those of you who toughed it out to the end of this entry, I saved the most important for last. Rebecca is taking the foreign service exam in about 19 hours now. I know she is going to beat the crap out of it, but because she's nervous about it anyways I'm sure... GOOD LUCK DEAR!

Anyhow, that's a full lid. Peace out.

Ok... forewarning, I'm VERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRY drunk! Maybe this wont ,ale fpr tje bst journal entry every, I'm sure there will be a lot of typos., but damn you bet it's going to be fun. I just got back from the buff party, which for those of you who aren't phis (brother inthe bond), is our big party of the yaear. The pledges make a big wire and paper mache buffalor, which happens to have a 6 foot fallus which is also a beer bong. Then we drunk punch out of the phallus. Little wierd? Pherhaps, but fuck is it fun. Anyways, I was at that, so I'm REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLY drunk, but I jsut got back to my room. The funniest is part about the trip back is this: I was riding the bus back, and I was talking to the bus driver the whole way (because I was the only person on the bus for like 70% of the ride). Except I couldn't figure out a damn word he was saying (half because he had a VERY black southern accent and hafl because I was drunk as fuck), so let's here it for instinctual conversationalism. Reading facial expressions and intenonations to determine whether you should say yeah, or that sucks, or whatever. Maybe I didn't do the bestest job ever, but damn I got by. Anyways, I'm fucked up, so I'm going to bed, after I call mah girl in il China. Peace out mother fuc***s

Alright, so I'd say it's about time for a livejournal update. And guess what, I have something more specific to say than "I've been really busy with work, school work, and fraternity stuff recently." YAY! Although, it fits into those catagories. Most of what I've been up to over the last few days is organizing Beach. Beach is the trip the fraternity takes to Myrtle Beach during senior week. I'm not going to be able to go this year unfortunately :(... but I'm beach bitch, so I'm organizing it. It has turned into a total chaotic mess, mostly because the hotel we usually stay at won't allow anyone under 21 now. So finally last night I made a reservation, though there is still one more reservation to make (don't ask). Anyhow, it's been crazy, but it should be almost done.

Other than that I've spent most of my off time toying around with Quicken. I got a copy, and have been playing with it to get myself organized and see if it can teach me anything I can use as fraternity treasurer next year.

Oh, and I'm pumped, my new blender and TV tuner should arrive soon. I nearly blew up the dorm today trying to blend ice cream with Paul's blender, that was a bad idea. Again, don't ask. Other than that, I absolutely can't wait for Rebecca to get back (less than 2 months now), and for Camp! Oh, and Memorial day weekend. And of course, the final four this weekend is going to be awesome, I am so incredibly pumped that my Blue Devils are going to be there!

Anyhow, I'm at BIAC now, so I guess I'd better get back to work. I only have 4 scans left to draw (almost done the back nine!) And two of those scans are of my brain (that'll be wierd to draw). Adios muchachos!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAUL!

(Ok, so I'm an hour and 17 minutes too late... sorry)

Alrighty, what's been going on with me? Well, BIAC work proceeds as always. I am now a little over half way through the scans. Hopefully I'll be able to finish up with that before I go to San Antonio (final four, baby!). There's been a lot of traffic on the fraternity front recently. We have had some financial struggles as of late. A huge thank you to my parents here, they made a significant donation which really means a lot to us. Also on the fraternity front it looks like I'm being appointed co-rush chair for next year, which is cool. It will be a LOT of pressure though, since we absolutely have to have a huge rush year next year.
Other than that I got to talk to Rebecca last night, which was nice, though our conversation got cut off because her cell phone expired. Good luck to her in preparing for her Mom's visit to China. I have a huge neuroscience test tomorrow, so I should probably get back to studying for that. Peace out y'all.

Not a whole lot new is going on. We went out to lunch for Jon Wong's birthday today, which was cool. Yesterday I spent most of my time at BIAC or doing random homework. Phi Delt had the world series of poker last night, but I unfortunately did not partake because I needed to get shit done. Friday night was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed dinner with Rachel, and fortified wine tasting, which followed, was a lot of fun. Fortified wine is some of the crappiest alcohol ever made however. Either way, it was a good time. Besides that stuff I've just been following the tourney, watching my bracket go to crap, and having a good ole time despite being swamped with work. Speaking of which, I'm off to BIAC, have a good one everybody!

10:29 pm

So it's been over two weeks since my last entry, my bad. I would claim that I've been extremely busy (because for the most part I have been), but seeing as last week was spring break and I did nothing all week I guess that claim only goes so far.
So like I said, last week was spring break. I went home and chilled there. Watched a lot of ESPN (it's March Madness baby!!!). The ACC tournament was on, which was incredible. Definitely the most competitive tournament I've ever seen, and that's 20 years of college hoops we're talking about. Yes, yes, Maryland won, and they snapped our record breaking ACC tournament win streak. Shit happens, at least they burned half their campus down in celebration, I have the video to prove it.
Things are definitely back in full swing here at Duke. My professors certainly didn't wait a few days for it to sink back in where we all are. I have a big Italian presentation on Leonardo da Vinci and other Italian inventors on Monday. Then I have a neuroscience test on an ungodly amount of material I haven't read next Wednesday and Friday. Oh, and our final project for research methodology is under way now. I don't mean to bitch, but let's just say that I'm going to have to do a little work in the next few weeks, which is kind of a new thing for me.
The other things occupying my time are (drum roll please...) you guessed it: the fraternity and my job. Particularly the second one, we have a big deadline coming up (supposedly the middle of march, but my boss hasn't jumped on me yet and I'm only about 1/3 done the project after working for a month!) On the good news side though, I think my boss may have actually congratuled me for once. It was hard to tell because I'm so used to her telling me my drawings intrude on the parahippocampal white matter, or I've included an intermediating sulcus (don't you hate it when people do that?). Nonetheless, I believe she said "good job."
Other than that, things are same old. I ran some errands today, lifted some weights (which is something that hasn't been "same old" but really should be). This weekend is looking good, though busy. I have a date on Friday (wahoo!), and the fraternity is doing fortified wine tasting Friday night. Then a fraternity dinner on Saturday, and the poker tournament that night. All this of course while I'm supposed to be studying (study or drink 40s... hmm...). Anyhow, screw you Maryland, and best wishes to everyone else.

Wow, it's been quite a while since I put an entry in here. Well, things in my life are good, though fairly typical. I'm still spending pretty much my entire weekends with the fraternity, then splitting my weeks between school work and BIAC work. I'm making good progress at my job, which is good because my scans need to be done by mid march. I'm going to be stepping up my hours there, so that's been a pretty big part of my life recently. This past weekend we had house beautification, as well as the much anticipated drink contest (which was one of my pledge tasks to the phikeia). Thanks to Kip, Opie, Paul, Justin, Matt, Rachel, and Kathryn for helping with the tasting and judging, and for coming out to the event. It was a good time. Todd won the contest, and got my sig, and we turned it into a mini party afterwards. Last Friday I saw Passion of the Christ, which was INTENSE. I thought it was well done and everyone should see it, but it's definitely not one of those movies you enjoy watching, it's pretty painful, but I guess that's the point. Other than that things are going well, keep on keeping on everybody.
